Fe. Varela et al., THE INFLUENCE OF TEMPERATURE ON THE GALVANIC CORROSION OF A CAST IRON-STAINLESS STEEL COUPLE (PREDICTION BY BOUNDARY-ELEMENT METHOD), Corrosion science, 39(4), 1997, pp. 775-788
The general and galvanic corrosion of carbon steel (SS400) and stainle
ss steel (SUS304) in CO2 + NaCl aqueous solution at elevated temperatu
res has been analyzed using electrochemical measurements and computati
onal simulation. The potential and current density distributions on th
e galvanic elements are described by the Laplace equation, and for num
erical calculation the boundary element method has been used. The expe
rimentally determined polarization curves have been used in order to d
efine the nonlinear boundary conditions. This boundary value problem h
as been solved using the Newton-Raphson iterative numerical procedure.
Additional thermodynamic and kinetic analysis was conducted to explai
n the observed corrosion behaviour. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.
