Crystalline K2MnP2O7: monoclinic, P2(1)/n, a = 12.649(6), b = 5.527(2)
, c = 9.571(3) angstrom, beta = 104.45(3)degrees, Z = 4, lambda MoK(al
pha) = 0.71069 angstrom, R/R(w) = 4.1/5.4%, 869 obs. refl., shows a pa
cking of PO4 and MnO6 polyhedra surrounding tunnels (parallel to the b
axis) which contain the K+ ions. Mn2+ ions are found at the comers of
planar networks of hexagons parallel to the crystallographic (100) pl
ane. Magnetic measurements on powder (2-300 K) show a maximum chi(M) a
t 2.6 K which could be associated with three-dimensional magnetic orde
r.
