Abstract
In the present study magnetic and magnetostrictive properties of Tb(Fe 1-xTx)(2) (T = Ti, V, Cr, Mn) and TbFe2 compounds were investigated. I t was found that the spontaneous magnetostriction A,,, changes slightl y upon Ti, V, Cr, Mn substitution. The change of lambda(100) due to su bstitution by T atoms can be ascribed to the filling of the d-band of Fe; it can also be seen from Mossbauer studies that the isomer shift f or the compounds increases due to substitution. The polycrystal magnet ostriction lambda(s) of the compounds has also been studied.
