Abstract
The total photoabsorption cross section for He-4 has been measured for -the first time over a wide photon energy range (200 MeV less than or equal to E(gamma)less than or equal to 800 MeV). By using the large ac ceptance detector DAPHNE at the tagged photon facility of the MAMI mic rotron in Mainz high precision results with small systematic errors we re obtained. This measurement shows that He-4 has a behavior similar t o heavy nuclei and, in particular, a reduction of the cross section wi th respect to the lighter nuclei is found for E(gamma)>600 MeV.
