Abstract
The structure of nuclei in the lower half of the fp shell is investiga ted by the spectral distribution method using the modified Kuo-Brown i nteraction. This interaction recently showed success in reproducing ob served properties through detailed shell model studies. Spectral distr ibution studies avoid explicit diagonalization and hold promise for ap plications to astrophysics.
