Jj. Froelich et al., CALCIFYING OBLITERATIVE ATHEROSCLEROSIS O F THE THORACIC AORTA ASSOCIATED WITH SYMPTOMS OF AORTIC COARCTATION - CASE-REPORT, Radiologe, 37(2), 1997, pp. 173-176
Calcifying obliterative atherosclerosis isolated within the descending
thoracic aorta causing subtotal vascular occlusion was associated wit
h symptoms such as in aortic coarctation in a 56-year-old patient. Rem
arkable in this unique case is the atypical and isolated manifestation
of atherosclerotic disease within the thoracic aorta, as well as the
tumorous extent of luminal calcification. Differential diagnostic cons
iderations had to include calcifying tumor of the aorta, remnants afte
r aortitis or secondary calcified aortic dissection.
