A. Converti et al., SIMULATION OF A REACTOR FOR GLUCOSE ISOMERIZATION TO FRUCTOSE BY IMMOBILIZED GLUCOSE-ISOMERASE WITH CONTINUOUS ENZYME RENEWAL, Biotechnology techniques, 11(2), 1997, pp. 99-103
Two different dispositions of laboratory-scaled columns have been test
ed to simulate the isomerization of glucose to fructose in a mobile be
d reactor where exhausted immobilized glucose isomerase is continuousl
y renewed. If the simulation columns working at 65 degrees C are arran
ged in parallel and connected to a section for final enzyme exploitati
on at 75 degrees C, a syrup with constant composition can be produced,
at relatively constant total throughput, by feeding the individual co
lumns at flow rate decreasing according to the enzyme decay profile an
d following a programmed disphased mode of operation.
