Abstract
During a 7-month period, we isolated 21 highly fluoroquinolone-resista nt Enterobacter cloacae strains in units from two hospitals in Marseil le, France, Random amplification of polymorphic DNA showed clonal iden tity between isolates which, furthermore, presented the Enterobacter h ormaechei genotype on DNA-DNA hybridization. The emergence of this clo ne was observed only in patients treated with fluoroquinolones.
