FLAVONOL AND CHALCONE ESTER GLYCOSIDES FROM BIDENS LEUCANTHA

Four new flavonol 7-O-glycosides 1-4 and a new chalcone ester glycosid e 5 have been isolated from the leaves of Bidens leucantha along with four known chalcone ester glycosides 6-9. Their structures were elucid ated using a combination of spectroscopic techniques. The in vitro ant i-HIV activity of all the compounds was tested as part of our screenin g of potential anti-AIDS agents from medicinal plants. Although none o f the flavonol glycosides was active, a moderate inhibitory effect on viral replication was exerted by chalcone ester glycoside 9.
