Gold(lll) was incorporated into porphyrins by disproportionation of th
e gold(I) complex [Au(tht)(2)]BF4, (tht=tetrahydrothiophene) under rel
atively mild reaction conditions (refluxing chloroform), This novel me
thod allows, in particular, the preparation of the gold(lll) complex o
f 7,13,17-tetraethyl-2,8,12,18-tetramethylporphyrin, which could not b
e obtained by the usual method (KAuCl4 in refluxing acetic acid).
