Background: Locoregional chemotherapy can be considered in patients wi
th a previously treated local recurrencies. A necessary condition is t
he sufficient perfusion of the tumor and the surrounding tissue throug
h the catheter. Patients and Methods: After exclusion of distant metas
tases, 5 patients with genital carcinoma infiltrating the pelvic wall
and 5 patients with breast cancer infiltrating the chest wall followin
g boast cancer surgery were given locoregional chemotherapy. The locat
ion of the catheter was controlled by spiral CT and angiography. Mitox
antron and mitomycin were administered. Heparinization was performed f
or 24 h to prevent thrombosis. Results: The 10 patients responded to t
he locoregional chemotherapy. Pain symptoms and the clinical findings
improved considerably. Finally, all patients died of generalized disea
se. Conclusion: Results of locoregional perfusion chemotherapy depend
on primary tumors and pretreatment. However, it could be demonstrated
on 10 patients that a beneficial palliative effect can be reached in p
atients for whom there is no further therapy.
