Abstract
A system of differential equations is derived from Biot's constitutive and motion equations for a poroelastic material and a model for a one -layer seabed is constructed. A normal modes representation for pressu re in the far field is found ii? the case of constant parameters. The model's prediction for transmission loss is examined for five differen t types of sediments and compared to the predictions of a solid elasti c halfspace model.
