The authors present 2 cases of acute pulmonary embolism in which intra
operative transesophageal echocardiography guided successful surgical
embolectomy. In their experiences, transesophageal echocardiography wa
s a safe and useful method of visualizing and detecting mobile thrombi
in the operating room. Thus, it should be used as an intraoperative g
uidance for surgical embolectomy.
