Automatic triggering of magnetic resonance (MR) angiography with detec
tion of a contrast material bolus was evaluated. Signal intensity chan
ges with time were tracked in a prescribed tracking or monitoring volu
me by a parallel signal processing unit that automatically started dat
a acquisition once user-defined thresholds were exceeded. This techniq
ue, referred to as MR Smartprep, was reliable and avoided the inconsis
tencies of manual timing.
