Abstract
The mortality of the Argentine mackerel Scomber japonicus during the s pring of 1993 was studied by analyzing their stomach contents. All dea d specimens contained salps. This study suggests that the salps contai ned high concentrations of the toxigenic dinoflagellate Alexandrium ta marense, and constituted herbivorous vectors of toxicity, causing the death of the mackerel.
