Abstract
Soft X-ray irradiation on low density cold matter K-ionizes neutral ca rbon. The complete ionization process, single ionization and shake-off processes, followed by Auger decay produces excited states of CIII an d CIV ions. Consequently CIII and CIV UV lines are produced directly w ith comparable intensities. Some relative intensities of observable li nes are calculated.
