Abstract
We present a new catalogue of faint astrometric reference stars in the direction of the Galactic Center. The positions and proper motions of 55 stars within an area of 12'x 12' around the Galactic Center are de termined relative to 86 PPM stars in the FK5/J2000.0 reference system. The individual rms error of a position at epoch 2000.0 is 0.25'', the rms error of a proper motion component is approximately 1.0''/century . In comparison to the catalogue available previously this is an impro vement by a factor of 4. Positions from the new grid are applied to re cently published results from far red and IR imaging of the Galactic C enter region in order to discuss the revised location of various stell ar sources in the immediate vicinity of the non-thermal compact radio source SgrA.
