Congenital syphilis is a rare disease that manifests as primary skelet
al lesions in a small proportion of cases. A case of late congenital s
yphilis in an Ig-year-old woman is reported. Tibial periostitis was th
e first manifestation, Clinical symptoms and radiologic changes were s
uggestive of congenital syphilis. Serologic tests for syphilis yielded
strongly positive reactions. There was evidence of asymptomatic neuro
syphilis. The outcome was favorable under treatment. Clinical and radi
ologic manifestations of bone lesions in secondary and tertiary acquir
ed syphilis are reviewed and compared with those in late congenital sy
philis.
