Jm. Polygiannakis et X. Moussas, FRACTAL PROPERTIES OF THE INTERPLANETARY MAGNETIC-FIELD FLUCTUATIONS - INDICATIONS OF CHAOTIC DYNAMICS, Astronomy and astrophysics, 283(3), 1994, pp. 990-996
The fractal nature of the magnetic field fluctuations is verified usin
g HEOS 2 (at 1 AU), Pioneer 10 (at 4.8 AU), Pioneer 11 (at 20 AU) inte
rplanetary and ICE (Giacobini-Zinner) cometary environment high resolu
tion measurements. The fractal dimension of the time series profiles i
s estimated and the self-affinity property is tested. The results show
significant diversions from the power-law model. Certain properties o
f the field scaling, exhibited in most of the cases, indicate that det
erministic, chaotic dynamics may exist in the solar wind turbulence.
