A comparatively greater quantity of dye is necessary to dye microfibre
fabrics than conventional fabrics. This quantity depends on the finen
ess of the fibre and on the size of the dye molecule. A difference bet
ween the structure of the amorphous zones of polyester microfibres and
conventional fibres can be invoked to explain this behaviour. This di
fference in structure also explains the poor mechanical behaviour of m
icrofibre fabrics during the washing process, particularly polar fleec
