Abstract
From analysis of radial velocity measurements the binary nature of Ple ione is discussed. A possible orbital period of about 35 yr was detect ed. This value also coincides with the variations of the spectral prop erties of the star (shell- non-shell phase). An elliptical orbit of hi gh eccentricity (e > 0.75) is probable. The mass of the companion is p robably not smaller than about 2.5 M..
