Km. Wolff et al., ADVANCED MATERNAL AGE AND PERINATAL OUTCOME - OOCYTE RECIPIENCY VERSUS NATURAL CONCEPTION, Obstetrics and gynecology, 89(4), 1997, pp. 519-523
Objective: To compare perinatal outcome in older oocyte recipients wit
h that in women of advanced maternal age who conceived without assiste
d reproductive technologies. Methods: We performed a retrospective coh
ort study of 46 oocyte recipients and 49 women who conceived without a
ssisted reproductive technologies. The obstetric courses in singleton
and multiple gestations in the two groups of women were compared. Resu
lts: Among singleton pregnancies, a comparable obstetric course was no
ted between the groups. Fifty percent of the oocyte recipients experie
nced multiple gestations, resulting in an increased risk for placenta
previa, premature rupture of membranes, preterm labor and delivery, gl
ucose intolerance of pregnancy, pregnancy-induced hypertension, and ce
sarean delivery. However, only the risks for pregnancy-induced hyperte
nsion and cesarean delivery were significantly increased in the pregna
ncies of oocyte recipients with multiple gestations. Conclusions: Perin
atal complications in women receiving oocyte donation may be related t
o their higher incidence of multiple gestation. (C) 1997 by The Americ
