Abstract
A detailed transmission electron microscopic study of deformation lame llae in quartz from arenitic samples of Rooiberg Group strata in the S tavoren Fragment of the Bushveld Complex is reported. The results demo nstrate that this deformation phenomenon does not represent shock meta morphic deformation, but is likely of tectonic origin. Thus, an origin by impact of the Bushveld Complex has, to date, not been supported by any unambiguous findings of impact-diagnostic shock metamorphic defor mation effects.
