Abstract
An alternative approach to the formulation of unbalanced fault current calculation without using symmetrical components is proposed for incl usion in the power engineering curriculum for undergraduate teaching. With the proposed representation of the system elements in an equivale nt admittance matrix and the formulation of the system equation in the phase coordinates for different types of faults, this paper demonstra tes in a test network that unbalanced fault currents can be calculated entirely in phase coordinates by solving a set of linear system equat ions. The calculated results were compared with those obtained using t he conventional approach. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.
