Understanding and Investigating Female Friendship's Educative Value Th
is article presents research which suggests that college women's frien
dships are learning relationships in which intellectual play and perfo
rmance are risk-free and in which college women reconcile the construc
ted barrier between autonomous and interdependent learning and engage
in a dynamic articulation of thinking and knowing. The implications of
the value and power of this relationship for higher education pedagog
y, research, and practice are discussed.
