An. Krasovskii et al., IR STUDY OF DISTRIBUTION OF PRIMARY AND SECONDARY FUNCTIONAL-GROUPS IN HIGHLY SUBSTITUTED CELLULOSE ACETATES, ACETOMALEATES, AND ACETOPHTHALATES, Russian journal of applied chemistry, 69(7), 1996, pp. 1048-1054
A study is made of the distribution of integral intensities of absorpt
ion bands due to stretching vibrations of hydroxy groups at 3200-3700
cm(-1) and carbonyl groups at 1740-1750 cm(-1) in infrared spectra of
highly substituted (c(a) = 60-61.5%) cellulose acetates, acetomaleates
, and acetophthalates in methylene chloride solutions. The observed va
riations in the distribution of the primary (C6) and secondary (C2 and
C3) hydroxy (or carbonyl) groups are interpreted in terms of their re
lative reactivity in the stages of cellulose activation and acetylatio
n.
