The title host compounds were designed. The cis-1,3-diphenylcyclohexan
e-1,3-diol, its 2-methyl derivative, as well as the cis- and tuans-iso
mers of 1,4- and 1,3-bis (hydroxydiphenylmethyl) cyclohexanes showed h
igh inclusion ability for guest compounds. However, while the trans-1,
2-bis(hydroxydiphenylmethyl)cyclopropane showed also a good inclusion
ability, cis-1,2-bis(hydroxydiphenylmethyl)cyclohexane showed none. In
order to evaluate the structural features which control the inclusion
behavior of the newly designed host compounds, molecular and crystal
structures of inclusion complexes of trans-1,4-bis(hydroxydiphenylmeth
yl)cyclohexane with acetone and with MeOH, and of cis-1,3-diphenylcycl
ohexane-1,3-diol with EtOH were determined.
