1,1-Diphenyldisilane and 1,1-diphenyldisilane-d(4) react with liquid h
ydrogen iodide forming the iododisilanes I2HSiSiH3 and I2DSiSiD3. The
IR and Raman spectra have been recorded for the liquid phases. Assiste
d by ab initio calculations, the vibrational spectra have been assigne
d using C-s symmetry, and the results of normal coordinate calculation
s are discussed. Scaled and unsealed ab initio frequencies and harmoni
c force constants for IH2SiSiH3, I2HSiSiH3 and I3SiSiH3 are reported.
The Si-29 spectrum of 1,1-diiododisilane has been recorded and the (Si
Si)-Si-29-Si-29 coupling constant has been measured. (C) 1997 Elsevier
