Abstract
The synthesis of 4-vinylstilbenes was accomplished by the Heck and Wit tig reactions. Bromination of polystyrene was achieved by an iron-cata lyzed electrophilic substitution reaction. Polymer-analogous coupling reactions of styrenes with respect to stilbenes with poly(bromostyrene )s was accomplished by Heck- reactions under optimized reaction condit ions and is reported with respect to the molecular weight of the poly( bromostyrene)s. Thermal and optical properties are discussed with resp ect to light-emitting diode applications.
