Education and training in mental retardation and developmental disabilities
Using a multiple baseline design, the effectiveness of a training prog
ram was evaluated for behavioral aides providing individualized suppor
t for adults with severe disabilities and challenging behaviors in a d
ay treatment activity center. This training package was designed to en
hance the behavioral aides' overall knowledge base around challenging
behaviors, valued activities, and physical, and social integration. Th
rough a modification of the Valued Outcomes Information System, and we
ekly assessments with their supervisor, all five of the participants w
ere able to show marked increases in their clients' social and physica
l community integration. Results are discussed regarding implications
and possible limitations of the study.
