Abstract
The exact solution is obtained for the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of the diagonal-to-diagonal transfer matrix of the two-dimensional colou r six-vertex model. On the basis of this solution the exact expression for the free energy of the model is derived. This model is the classi cal analogue of the one-dimensional t-J model with spin-nonconserved i nteractions.
