Kp. Kalirajan et Sj. Zhao, DID THE TECHNICAL EFFICIENCY OF STATE ENTERPRISES IMPROVE WITH THE SAME SPEED IN ALL PROVINCES IN CHINA, Applied economics, 29(3), 1997, pp. 269-277
The objectives of this study are to examine whether technical efficien
cy of China's state enterprises improved over time due to the impact o
f economic reforms and to examine whether the response rates varied si
gnificantly across provinces. The results carry strong policy implicat
ions for future reforms. The empirical results show that technical eff
iciency improved significantly due to economic reforms from 1986 to 19
89. Shanghai appears to have responded more quickly and consistently t
o economic reforms than other provinces over the period.
