STATISTICAL-INFERENCE FOR POVERTY INDEXES FIXED POVERTY LINES

The consistency and asymptotic normality of estimators for two classes of poverty indices, decomposable indices, and Sen-like indices is dem onstrated. Asymptotic variance expressions are obtained that allow for easy distribution-free statistical inference on the resulting estimat es. An empirical example using Canadian microdata demonstrates the fea sibility and usefulness of the techniques.
