Abstract
Accurate roll geometry is essential for achieving good paper machine e fficiency and paper quality. Roll roundness and concentricity errors a lone are known to result in many costly performance losses on the pape r machines, including vibrations, decrease in paper quality, and nonun iform roll wear. New advances in roll measurement and grinder control technology now allow more accurate, versatile, faster and reliable rol l quality and can be easily retrofitted to all types of grinders. This paper discusses the latest developments in roll measurement and contr ol systems, and the benefits they provide for improving paper machine performance as well as reducing overall maintenance costs.
