W. Glaubitt et al., SOL-GEL PROCESSING OF FUNCTIONAL AND STRUCTURAL CERAMIC OXIDE FIBERS, JOURNAL OF SOL-GEL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY, 8(1-3), 1997, pp. 29-33
Structural ceramic oxide fibers like alpha-Al2O3, MgAl2O4 (spinel), Y3
Al5O12 (YAG) and eutectic Al2O3-Y3Al5O12 as well as the functional Pb(
Zr1-xTix)O-3 (PZT) fibers were successfully prepared by sol-gel proces
sing. All precursors are based on metal oxohydroxopropionates. A compa
rative study of sol-gel routes leading to spinnable sols demonstrates
the key role of propionic acid as an excellent agent for controlling h
ydrolysis and condensation reactions.
