N. Stritt et al., STUDY OF ATOMIC MOTION IN ORIENTED EUO SINGLE-CRYSTALS USING NEUTRINOINDUCED DOPPLER BROADENING, Physical review letters, 78(13), 1997, pp. 2592-2595
The motion of atoms caused by neutrino emission following electron cap
ture is observed in EuO crystals by measuring the Doppler shift of sub
sequently emitted gamma rays. The slowing down of the recoiling atom,
which depends on the forces exerted by other atoms in the crystal, is
calculated measured and simulated gamma-ray line shapes opens the way
to a precise determination of the interatomic potential and of the lif
etime of the nuclear state.
