S. Angus et al., A CONTROLLED TRIAL OF AMANTADINE HYDROCHLORIDE AND NEUROLEPTICS IN THE TREATMENT OF TARDIVE-DYSKINESIA, Journal of clinical psychopharmacology, 17(2), 1997, pp. 88-91
An 18-week, double-blind, crossover study of amantadine and neurolepti
es in the treatment of tardive dyskinesia (TD) is described. A fixed-d
ose regimen was used, and objective rating scales for TD, extrapyramid
al symptoms, and mental state were employed. The results indicate that
amantadine is significantly better than placebo in the management of
TD and that there is little risk of exacerbating psychosis. Further in
vestigation of this potentially useful medication is warranted.
