Abstract
Based on the equilibrium equations used by Reissner and Clark, we sugg est a closed-form lower-bound solution of the limit moment for an infi nite elbow (without adjacent straight sections) in-plane bending, whic h improves the solution suggested by Calladine. The finite element sol ution is simultaneously obtained by means of a module programmed with the Castem 2000 code, which enables the perfectly plastic problem to b e solved by means of a sequence of incompressible elastic calculations .
