Creep behaviour of various alumina, zirconia and zirconia-toughened al
umina is investigated. A very large scale of creep rates and creep beh
aviours is observed. Creep rate depends on the grain sie, on the purif
y and on the composition of the glassy phase present in grain boundari
es. Cavitation and microcracking by grain boundary sliding have been i
