L. Rousseau et al., ISOTOPIC COMPOSITION-(DELTA-O-18) OF THE UPPER STALAGMITIC FLOOR OF LAZARET CAVE AT NICE, Comptes rendus de l'Academie des sciences. Serie 2, Mecanique, physique, chimie, sciences de l'univers, sciences de la terre, 318(6), 1994, pp. 783-786
Radiochronological and mineralogical studies of the stagmitic floor ''
Ensemble E'' of the Lazaret cave at Nice revealed that its formation h
as been continuous during the climatic period corresponding to ''stage
5''. In addition, biochemical analyses of this floor showed that the
crystals behave as a closed system with respect to organic compounds (
sterols). Oxygen isotopic compositions have registered variations whic
h are qualitatively in agreement with those ascribed to stage 5. There
fore, these oxygen isotopic variations may be used as an independent g
eochemical chronometer.
