Kinetics and by-products of ozonation of five chlorophenols (4-chlorop
henol, 2-chlorophenol 4-chlororesorcinol, 6-chloro-m-cresol and 2,4-di
chlorophenol) have been studied. Second order reaction rate constants
were determined. Two by-products hydrogen peroxide and quinones were f
ollowed during the ozonation. The formation of inorganic chloride duri
ng the ozonation proves that mineralization takes place. The toxicity
of ozonation products has been compared with the toxicity of pure chlo
rophenols utilizing Daphnia magna 24 hour test.
