Previously calibrated dosemeters containing CR-39 plastic detectors we
re used to measure radon levels in Jordanian cities during the autumn.
The averages of radon concentrations in the different cities obtained
in this work range from 29.3 to 99.7 Bq.m(-3). It was found that the
city of Karak possesses the highest radon concentrations and the city
of Aqaba possesses the lowest. Thus, the calculated average radon leve
ls in Jordanian dwellings as a whole was found to be 56.7 Bq.m(-3). Th
e average radon induced lung cancer risk during a lifetime for dweller
s of the cities under study was found to range from 0.12% to 0.41%.
