A simple and highly selective procedure for the spectrophotometric det
ermination of palladium is described. It is based on the formation of
the ternary ion-association complex Pd-SCN--Rhodamine 6G in a citrate
buffer medium. The colour system obeys Beer's law in the range from 0
to 10 mu g of palladium present in a final volume of 25 ml (epsilon =
8.8x10(4) l mol(-1) cm(-1)). The method has been successfully applied
to the determination of palladium in the palladium activated charcoal
(palladium catalyst).
