The inclusive energy spectra and yields of H-1, H-2, H-3, He-4, He-6,
and He-8 isotopes, as well as of the sum of Li and Be isotopes, from t
he spontaneous ternary fission of Cm-248 have been measured for the fi
rst time. Within experimental errors, the relative yields of hydrogen
and helium isotopes (with respect to the yield of He-4) emitted from C
m-248 agree with the yields of the corresponding isotopes emitted from
Cf-252. The yields of Li and Be isotopes from the spontaneous fission
of Cm-248 are considerably less than the corresponding yields from Cf
-252 fission. The measured probability of He-4 emission [(2.2 +/- 0.3)
x 10(-3) per binary fission event] in Cm-248 spontaneous fission is c
onsistent with the previously observed Z(2)/A dependence of the probab
ility of spontaneous ternary fission for nuclides with Z greater than
or equal to 96.
