H. Yoda et al., ANALYSIS OF POLARIZATION-INSENSITIVE TUNABLE OPTICAL FILTER USING LIQUID-CRYSTAL - CONNECTION FORMULA AND APPARENT PARADOX, Optical and quantum electronics, 29(2), 1997, pp. 285-299
The resonance characteristics of a twisted-nematic liquid crystal Fabr
y-Perot wavelength filter (TN-FP) is analysed and it is shown that it
obeys some simple laws hitherto unknown. A method to calculate the tra
nsmittance and eigenstate of polarizations of the filter is first demo
nstrated. Next, approximate expressions of resonance wavelengths at so
me of the voltage regions are derived and connection formulae for two
series of modes are presented. Finally, a transition of the eigen pola
rization in the FP etalon is investigated, and an interpretation of a
paradoxical property concerning the longitudinal mode number of the fi
lter is given.
