C. Ohta et al., FEEDBACK-TYPE RATE-BASED CONGESTION CONTROL WITH ADAPTIVE PARAMETER, Electronics & communications in Japan. Part 1, Communications, 80(2), 1997, pp. 44-54
The rate-based congestion control is one of the most promising schemes
far available bit fate (ABR) service in asynchronous transfer mode-lo
cal area networks (ATM-LANs). This paper points out the possibility of
goodput degradation when the number of connections through a bottlene
ck queue increases with the binary feedback-type rate-based congestion
control where transmission rate is changed on the basis of additive i
ncrease-multiplicative decrease principle. Then, to overcome this prob
lem, a feedback-type rate-based congestion control with adaptive param
eter is proposed in which rate incremental factor is adapted according
to the number of active connections which can be detected by observin
g the fluctuation of queue length. Simulation results show that the pr
oposed scheme has fine power characteristics for any number of connect
ions sharing the bottleneck node.
