Caesium entrapped in nanoporous carbon is not pyrophoric, is thermally
stable towards desorption up to 773 K, but retains its ability to pro
duce hydrogen from water, and is a strong basic catalyst, providing a
greater than 9:1 ratio of the less stable cis-but-2-ene over the trans
isomer in the isomerization of but-1-ene at 273 K.
