Abstract
A mechanism for the self focussing of vorticity in perfect fluids is p resented. This self-focussing could be responsible for the occurrence of finite time blow-up of solutions of the Euler 3D incompressible flu id equations. It could also explain the occurrence of long threads of vorticity in numerical experiments as well as in real experiments.
