This paper deals with the evolution of an isotropic homogeneous turbul
ence subjected to coupled effects of rotation and axisymmetric contrac
tion. It is shown through the study of the linear part of the equation
s relating to the spectral tensor that rotation tends to impose the eq
uality of the spectral tensor components in the local frame of referen
ce and then involves energy decrease. It also greatly modifies the lin
ear terms that involve the fluctuating pressure and it may explain the
problems of modelling encountered seeing that flows are not only subj
ected to the effects of pure deformation but also to the effects of ro
tation.
