Abstract
The reaction of the cluster substituted carboxylic acid [(CO)(9)Co-3(m u(3)-CCO2H)] with Cd(CH3CO2)(2) . H2O in the presence of tetraethylene glycol dimethyl ether(TGM) afforded the binuclear complex [Cd-2{(CO)( 9)Co-3(mu(3)-CCO2)}(4)(TGM)]. The solid state structure shows that the cluster carboxylate ligands act as chelating and asymmetrical bridgin g ligands, respectively, and the TGM ligand exhibits a conformation no t previously observed. The coordination number of each cadmium atom is seven, resulting in a coordination geometry consisting of a distorted trigonal capped square-based polyhedron. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Lt d.
